Wow! What a night. A record-breaking attendance which packed out the hall and the dining room took part in the final 'public' event in the old hall before it makes way for the PAC. Quiz Night has become something of a must-do event, and the 2010 event saw 240 people take on Quizmaster Ian Bond, aided by wife Sarah and Year 11 daughter Sophie for the honour of winning. With rounds covering Film & TV, Sport, Music, Geography, Mamma Mia (to promote the Mamma Mia Summer Party), and the Performing Arts (to promote... the Performing Arts Centre, of course, the questions were both tough and easy, depending on your level of knowledge.
The evening began with FoND Joint Chairs Penny Wakefield and Kyrste Fergusson handing over a cheque to the school for £20,000, funds raised by the parents and given towards the Performing Arts Centre. The money is in fact worth £40,000 to the school, since a mysterious benefactor has come forward and guaranteed to match, pound-for-pound, all the money raised by FoND in the current academic year - a truly amazing and extremely generous gesture. And thanks to the generosity of the sheer number of people joining in the fun of the Quiz Night, Friday night's event raised a further £7,000 - quite an achievement for 'a cheap evening out' that usually raises no more than £1500.
