Charlie Higgs swam an excellently paced race in the Junior Girls (yrs 8 and9)100m breaststroke holding off a strong challenge for 3rd place, by just inching away from her competitor in the next lane and maintaining her 3rd place at the finish, and 5th overall.
Lucy Sessions was in the 1st heat of the Lower Junior Girls 100m Butterfly, she swam a magnificent race leading from the block to 75m. She maintained her technique, composure and race strategy in a very tight race and was just touched out at the finish. Lucy placed 3rd overall.
Imogen Mahon swam a brave race in the Inrmediate fly; she tried to stick with the fast pace of the leaders but found it did not suit her race plan for a 100m distance.
I mogen finished 6th overall.
Francesca Monteiro swam an intelligent race in the Lower Junior 100m backstroke as this was the first time she had competed at this level.Francesca finished 5th in her heat.
Connie Prowse put in a good performance in the Intermediate backstroke; sticking to her race plan and being placed 5th overall.
Bethany Eastwood got off to a commanding lead in the Senior Girls 100m Backstroke, she looked strong during all 4 lengths and won her heat with ease and was paced 1st overall.
Francesca Linney was lying 3rd after the 25m fly, a close 3rd /4th after the backstroke length, 4th after the breaststroke leg and she finished 4th after the freestyle in the Lower Junior 100m I ndividual Medley. Francesca eas placed 7th overall.
Alice Cadman did the same event for the Junior Girls and she built her race well by increasing her speed over each stroke. Alice gained distance on her competitors in her breaststroke leg and finished 4 th in her heat.
Alex Singer also swam an intelligent 100m I.M. In the Intermediate age group. She was placed 2nd after the fly, 2/3 after the backstroke, 2nd after the breaststroke and she finished 2nd in her heat and 5th overall. This was a good result for Alex.
The last event for the Lower Junior Girls was the 100m Freestyle, in which
Hannah Burvill was representing Notre Dame. She led from the gun to the finish, maintaining and building a clear distance of about 5m from the rest of the field and finally finishing 7 metres ahead of the opposition. Her time of 1.04.35 was a new championship record. Tilly Prowse then dived in for the Junior Freestyle and she flew away from the field; her 50m time was 28sec and again she continued to pull away from the swimmers for the 2nd half of the race. Her time of 1.01 for 100m freestyle is an amazing time for a 12 year old. The last race for Notre Dame was the 100m freestyle for the Intermediate girls with Alicia Thonet having had a long wait, she swam well, going with the pace of the race, fast for the first 25m and then judging the necessary speed required to hold her 4th place in the heat, and 4th overall.
Well done Swimmers!
