Greetings from St. Patrick’s in East Molesey. Many thanks to Mr George for informing me that due to COVID-19 restrictions the school’s annual feast day Mass on 20th November had to be cancelled. I was a bit disappointed but understood it was the right thing to do under the present circumstances. I have always enjoyed celebrating Mass with the school community on their annual feast day which coincides with the feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple.
I think we are all disappointed as your feast day was always such a happy occasion when the school community and many guests gathered around the altar in the gym to praise and thank God for the many blessings we have received during the year.
A school is never a more united community than when we assemble for Mass on our feast day. We are united with other Company of Mary schools throughout the world as they too celebrate their feast day and the students offer themselves to God and strive to live a good Christian life.
The Mass is the source and summit of the Christian life and very much part of the ethos of the school. It is the high point of our encounter with Christ and we always feel good after it as the graces and blessings of our prayer time flows through every corridor and room of the school. Hopefully we will have many celebrations next year now that there is a vaccine for COVID-19.
I wish you all a very happy feast day. It is a day to feel proud of yourselves. Even if we are not celebrating Mass it is still a day a happy occasion when the school community can appreciate and affirm one another.
Finally, I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the teachers and support staff for their hard work, dedication and commitment during this difficult year.
Please pass my greetings to all and looking forward to seeing you in the not too distant future.
HAPPY FEAST DAY.
