Every June all of the Catholic schools in our Diocese of Arundel and Brighton are invited to take representatives to the ‘Good Shepherd’ Celebration, with Bishop Richard. On Wednesday Notre Dame was represented by four Year 5 pupils for the celebration at Arundel Cathedral.
During the liturgy we were encouraged to reflect on the theme of this Jubilee Year, ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, and on the mission of Jesus, shared with us, to bring good news to the poor and to those in any kind of need. The music in the cathedral was wonderful and it was a privilege to be joined in prayer and celebration with several hundred other pupils from schools across our diocese.
Bishop Richard presented each school with a beautiful copy of the Jubilee Icon, which we look forward to displaying prominently.
Afterwards the pupils had a photograph with Bishop Richard and time to enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to school.
Very much in keeping with being ‘pilgrims’, travelling together on a journey, it was lovely that we were able to offer some seats on our minibus to pupils and accompanying staff from one of our local Catholic primary schools so that we could travel to and from the cathedral together.
