This week’s assembly was all about the month of May!
Mrs Botham introduced this week’s assembly by saying it was all about her favourite month of the year – May.
Flowers and trees begin to grow and flourish, bursting with bright colours and lovely smells! It tells us that the warm, summer weather is on its way.
It is also a special time because it is the ‘Month of Mary’.
Mrs Botham explained about The Month of Mary – May Devotions where The Catholic Church celebrates Mary during Mass, special hymns are sung, people lay flowers to bring nature into the Church and many festivals are held during May to celebrate Mary’s life.
There are lots of May traditions and we are about to celebrate the first with May Day. Other festivals such as The May Queen, Morris Dancing, and dancing around the Maypole are still enjoyed throughout the country.
Happy May everyone!
