Senior Science Board – Eos

Senior Science Board - Eos

Eos, dubbed after the Greek goddess of dawn is a giant cool, dense, gas cloud made of molecular hydrogen has been hiding in plain sight!

Astronomers have found a giant interstellar cloud surprisingly close to earth (300 light-years from our solar system), astronomers ground this cloud by scanning the sky for ultraviolet light coming from a molecular cloud’s hydrogen molecules, since hydrogen molecules makes up most of the cloud’s mass, however Burkhart and colleagues have estimate that Eos won’t be around the earth forever, it will slowly disappear over the next 6 million years.
