Year 4 began their Humanities topic of The Tudors this week, enjoying a sing-along and dance to one of the songs from the hit musical, ‘Six’, which is all about Henry VIII’s six wives.
Deciding we needed a little sit-down, we watched a video about The Battle of Bosworth, which was where the Tudor dynasty began. We worked together to write down some key facts on post-it notes for our Humanities display boards back in our classrooms. We were excited to watch this video as it helped to cement some of the information we had learned about in last Friday’s Guided Reading lesson in English.
We worked quickly to chronologically sort a Tudor timeline which helped us remember the events of the battle and also the subsequent details of how Henry VIII became King.
We returned to our classrooms before break time to learn how to draw a portrait of King Henry VIII, which was hilarious! We continued this throughout the day.
In the library, Mrs Kewley had put out a huge selection of Tudor fact books for us to look at, and we read these in our library session today, sharing a couple of Tudor facts with friends at the end of the library lesson.
In the afternoon we were lucky enough to have our Dance and Drama lessons, where Mrs Cesar taught us a Tudor dance, counting beats and speed of footwork. Mr Lawson Lean appointed us various Tudor characters to become, which was really funny and a great learning experience.
The end of the day was marked by the start of a new class reader by Terry Deary called The Princes, The Cook and The Cunning King.
Next week we continue our practical learning by planting out a Tudor herb garden, which we will have to look after for the summer term. We aim to grow enough herbs and plants for the pollinators but also so that we can all make a Tudor nosegay (posey) at the end of the summer term. Keep a lookout for our planting and designing!
Well done girls, a fantastic start to our Tudors topic, which will link well with our English lessons across the Summer Term.
