On Wednesday night, our ABC cohort (girls who go ‘Above and Beyond the Curriculum’ by following their individual passions and interests to create an end of year project) gathered in the Innovation Space with their parents and guardians to celebrate their achievements. Projects on display were diverse and all creative and interesting, ranging from: essays on The Concept of Forgiveness and The History of the Balkans; a diorama of Little House on the Prairie; projects on dogs and AI art and newspapers created using collections of articles written by students.
After a chance to look at the work on display and read the Statements of Intent, where students asked a thinking question and outlined their initial ideas and plans, Miss Fowler did a presentation on each of the projects and handed out well-deserved prizes. The work was incredible, and it was hard to choose winners.
The first runner up was Salma V (year 10), who combined her love of law and history to look at infamous historical figures such as Guy Fawkes’ through the lens of modern law. This was an original and fascinating concept involving detailed research into similar cases and likely outcomes. The second runner up was Sam F (year 8) with her detailed justifications for producing three pieces on a 3-D printer to showcase the capabilities of this in the medical field (a prosthetic hand), conservation (replicas of coral) and space travel (the original design for the wrench used by NASA in space.)
Overall, top spot went to year 7’s Annie L who painstakingly created a replica of the Earth and used flags and tiny embedded lights to give information about how climate change and overheating is affecting different parts of our world.
Well done to all the girls who worked hard and honed their independence skills and followed their passions and interests in ways which will stand them in excellent stead for the future. We will look forward to more brilliant projects in next year’s ABC and work will now be on display in the library for everyone to view.
