Year 7 History Trip to Windsor Castle

Year 7 History Trip to Windsor

Last Thursday Year 7 embarked on their historical adventure to Windsor Castle.

Visiting the world’s oldest inhabited castle and learning about its one thousand year history, the girls were mesmerised by the imposing building as well as its beautiful surroundings. With its origins being during the reign of William the Conqueror, it was the perfect place to bring to life the events surrounding the Norman Conquest and that infamous year of 1066.

The day began by the girls watching the Changing of the Guard and seeing the soldiers conduct their twice-weekly duty of ensuring the castle is protected by fresh Guardsmen.

Throughout a fun-packed day, the girls took part in a 1066 Workshop, recapping the Medieval period they have studied this year, even getting the opportunity to dress up and act out the feudal system.

The State Apartments provided an insight into the lives of the kings and queens of the past and the girls were in awe of the beauty of St George’s Chapel, whilst being humbled by visiting the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II, as well as seeing other famous graves, such as that of Henry VIII.

A truly great day was had by all.
