Year 2 Outdoor Learning – Great Fire of London

Year 2 Great Fire of London - Outdoor LEarning

Year 2 excitedly made their way to Forest School, proudly carrying their Tudor houses, for a Fabulous Finish to their topic, The Great Fire of London. The girls were whisked back in time to 1666, stepping into a bakery on Pudding Lane, where the famous fire first began!

They loved learning about fire safety and threw themselves into fun, hands-on challenges, from building a ladder to rescue the baker’s maid to crafting a broom to sweep the bakery floor. Mrs Botham and Miss Mullens were so proud of the girls’ teamwork and resilience, especially when faced with the tricky task of tying knots! Mrs Maltby amazed everyone by showing how to light a fire using a “Dragon’s Sneeze” and cotton wool, and the girls were thrilled to have a go themselves.

To bring their learning to life, the Tudor houses were arranged closely together in the fire circle and carefully set alight. In just moments, the flames had spread across all the houses. Watching the fire unfold helped the girls truly understand how quickly the Great Fire spread and the importance of fire safety today.

It was a wonderful, memorable experience that brought history to life!
