Year 8’s first trip of the year was to the magnificent Hampton Court Palace, famously built by Cardinal Wolsey but stolen from him by Henry VIII.
The girls were treated to a rollercoaster ride back into the tumultuous times of the infamous Tudors. The girls took part in a workshop with the education officer about the religious turmoil created by Henry VIII that caused the reigns of his children to keep on changing the religion of the country. They also found out about the private lives of his six legendary wives. Our Notre Dame girls walked in the very footsteps of these 16th Century ‘celebrities’. The grand courtyards and expansive banqueting hall were explored, with eager anticipation to maybe catch a glimpse of the reputed ghost of Henry’s fifth wife, Katherine Howard but unfortunately no sightings were made. The girls also got lost in the maze, visited the shop, had lunch, a visit to the kitchens and a look in detail at all the paintings of the Tudors.
Quotes from the girls about their day…
“I loved my experience at Hampton Court because even though I’ve been there before I still learnt a lot of new things. For example, I learnt how there were eavesdroppers over the Great Hall.” Scarlett B
“Hampton Court was very fun. I loved the art and all the paintings especially the one of Henry VIII with Jane Seymour and Edward, his son and Mary and Elizabeth, his daughters. My favourite part of the palace was the chapel. It was so pretty.” Lizzy W
A fabulous day was had by all.
