Year 12 Geography Field Trips

Y12 Geography Field Trip June 2025

On Monday, we went on a Geography field trip to the coast at Seaford, Sussex. When we arrived, we started at the Martello Tower, where we had a useful talk about how to use secondary data for our NEAs. After that, we headed down to the beach to collect primary data. Using ranging poles, we measured the gradient of the beach and looked at how rock sizes changed the further we got from the sea. It was great to be out on the beach and learning how we would collect our own primary data for our NEAs. The weather was amazing, so we had some ice cream before looking at some of the erosional features like a headland and a stack. Finally, we went to Saltdean, where we saw different examples of hard engineering, like wooden and rock groynes. It was interesting to see how the coast is managed differently in a more residential and built-up area.

On Tuesday we visited the London Docklands as part of our geography fieldwork to explore the area’s regeneration over time, we were fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day which made the experience even more enjoyable and ideal for working outdoors. We went to the Docklands Museum to see the changes since the 1960’s, particularly in terms of industry, housing, and infrastructure. We carried out a variety of fieldwork to gain a deeper understanding and prepare us for our NEAs, including collecting both quantitative and qualitative data. We also took a journey on the London Clipper allowing us to see the changes along the river and observe the regeneration from a different angle.

Both days helped us to build the skills and confidence needed to collect and analyse data for our independent coursework (NEA) projects.
