This week, pupils from Years 3 to 6 had the exciting opportunity to work with visiting artist Katherine Haywood in a hands-on sculpture workshop that tied beautifully into our STEAM department’s ocean theme.
Using natural materials such as willow and tissue paper, students created striking 3D fish sculptures that explored the beauty and diversity of marine life.
The workshop was designed to be cross-curricular, engaging pupils in a wide range of skills including structural design and mathematical thinking.
As they built their sculptures, children collaborated in teams, developing both fine and gross motor skills while problem-solving and experimenting with form, balance, and proportion.
The result was a vibrant collection of underwater creatures that not only showcased artistic creativity but also reflected the interdisciplinary spirit of STEAM learning.
This enriching experience brought our ocean theme to life and highlighted the power of creative collaboration in education.
