Year 8 African Drumming Workshops
As part of our Black History Month celebrations, students across the school have been taking part in a series of enriching cultural workshops. Last week, Years 6 and 7 explored the vibrant tradition of African storytelling, engaging with powerful narratives that reflect the continent’s diverse cultures and histories.
This week, Year 8 students embraced the rhythm and energy of African drumming in dynamic workshops led by Lucky Moyo from Inspire Works. The sessions offered a hands-on experience of traditional instruments and musical techniques, encouraging creativity and collaboration.
Looking ahead, Year 9 will take part in a lively South African gumboot dancing workshop next week, an expressive dance form rooted in resilience and community.
We’re excited to see how these experiences inspire the girls’ research projects, classroom discussions, and creative work throughout October as we continue to honour and explore Black history and culture.
