Year 1 Explore Winter Wonders in Outdoor Learning
As part of Year 1’s science topic on the seasons, with a special focus on winter, the girls took their learning outdoors this week for a hands‑on exploration of the natural world.
During the session, the girls set out to identify deciduous and evergreen trees, using their observations to understand how each type changes (or stays the same!) through the colder months. They also discussed the different birds that might be seen in the forest at this time of year and learned why food becomes harder for wildlife to find in winter.
To help the local bird population, the girls enjoyed making their own bird feeders, proudly hanging them around the outdoor area to support the birds through the chilly weather.
Adding to the excitement of the afternoon, the group spotted one of the first snowdrops of the season—a delightful early sign that spring is on its way.
It was a fantastic session full of curiosity, discovery, and seasonal science brought to life.
