Years 7 and 8 Explore the Magic of Maths in Interactive Think Maths Sessions
This week, Years 7 and 8 took part in two engaging Think Maths sessions in the theatre, joined by students from Reed’s School for an exciting day of discovery.
In the first session, students uncovered the hidden mathematics behind modern technology through lively, hands-on demonstrations. They explored how barcodes work, experimented with error correction, decoded binary numbers, and examined how digital images are constructed, revealing just how much maths powers the systems we use every day.
The second session delved into the surprising world of probability. Through games, puzzles and thought provoking challenges, students learned why chance can often defy intuition, from understanding the true odds of winning the lottery to exploring the famous birthday paradox.
Both sessions were vibrant, memorable and filled with moments of discovery, showing students the fascinating ways maths connects to real life.
A fantastic experience for all involved!
