Caring For Our World

Mrs Shaw - Y5 Humanities - Plastic Free Project Talk

Today, Year 5 had the privilege of welcoming Mrs Shaw to speak about her inspiring journey towards living a plastic free lifestyle. What began as a simple experiment for Advent turned into a life-changing mission to reduce plastic waste and raise awareness about its impact on the environment.

Mrs Shaw shared how her eyes were opened to the staggering amount of plastic used in everyday life, particularly in supermarkets. From food packaging to household items, she was shocked by how much single-use plastic had become a norm in our society. Determined to make a difference, she committed herself to a plastic-free experiment during Advent.

Mrs Shaw’s message is clear: every individual can make a difference. By making small, consistent changes, we can collectively create a significant positive impact on the environment. Her visit was a powerful reminder that even small actions, like refusing a plastic straw or carrying a reusable bag, can lead to big changes if many people participate.

Year 5 were deeply inspired by Mrs Shaw: her passion and determination encouraged us all to think critically about our own habits and to think about how we can reduce waste in our lives.

We would like to thank Mrs Shaw for her excellent presentation on her take on how to reduce plastics in food production.
