Chaplain’s Corner – Lent

Chaplain's Corner - Lent

The season of Lent gives us a particular opportunity to reflect with gratitude on everything good that we are given and can sometimes take for granted. It is also a time for small acts of denial; many people choose, during Lent, to ‘give something up’.

On Tuesday 24 March all of the pupils and students from Year 3 to Year 13 as well as all of the staff will be invited to take part in a simple Lenten lunch, with soup, bread and fruit. The meal provided on that day will be the same for everyone, reflecting the fact that we are all part of one world, and are all equal in the eyes of God. We are used to a wonderful range of food choices each day; just this one day in the year with a ‘set menu’ will help us to value the choice we have throughout the rest of the year all the more. While eating, pupils, students and staff will have the opportunity to learn more about the lives of some of our sisters and brothers in Company of Mary Our Lady schools around the world in countries such as East Timor and Haiti. Again, this will provide an opportunity during this Lenten period for us to think about how fortunate we are with all that we are provided with, and to leave with a real sense of gratitude.
