Drama Students Inspired by National Theatre Performance of Ballet Shoes
On Tuesday 10th February our A Level and GCSE Drama students enjoyed a memorable and enriching evening at the National Theatre, where they attended the acclaimed and three time Olivier nominated production of Ballet Shoes.
Based on Noel Streatfeild’s much loved children’s novel and adapted for the stage by Kendall Feaver, the play follows the journeys of three adopted sisters, Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil, as they each strive to pursue their individual passions. Set against the backdrop of financial hardship and the mysterious disappearance of their Great Uncle Matthew, the story explores themes of family, resilience, ambition and the vital importance of finding and choosing one’s own “tribe.”
This vibrant and heartfelt production vividly showcased the transformative power of performance, offering our students both entertainment and valuable insight into the craft of theatre making.
In the coming weeks, the girls will begin preparing their Live Theatre Review essays in lessons, drawing on the techniques, staging choices and performances they observed during the trip.
This enjoyable and educational experience has undoubtedly inspired their creativity and is sure to propel them towards exam success!
During the interval members of the cast popped up to give them a little ballet master class!
