🌾 Infant Assembly: The Big Birdwatch

The Big Bird Watch

This week, Ms Sargeant introduced the girls to The Big Birdwatch, an exciting national initiative designed to help children connect with nature and learn more about the birds in their local environment.

To spark their curiosity, Ms Sargeant began by sharing a series of photographs featuring common garden birds. The girls enjoyed identifying familiar species and discussing where they might spot them nearby.

The class then learned about the RSPB, an important charity founded in 1889 to protect birdlife across England, Scotland and Wales. The Big Birdwatch, which runs from early January until the end of February, encourages children to observe the birds around them and develop valuable identification skills.

Through the project, the girls will discover how watching local birds can contribute to national data by recording the number and variety of species they see. They also learnt about the many fun activities they can take part in during the Birdwatch, including:

  • counting different types of birds
  • identifying species by their appearance and sound
  • making bird feeders
  • creating their own bird fact files
  • recording and presenting data in different ways
  • drawing birds from observation

There are countless ways to get closer to nature and explore the wonderful birdlife in our local area.
So… what will you choose to do first? 🐦✨

Congratulations to this week’s Stars of the Week and winners of the ‘Living Life To The Full’ Certificate.
