Senior Science Corner – The Rewired Maternal Brain

On the 4th of March 2026, a study was published where scientists looked deeper into what ‘Baby brain’ actually was.

They discovered that, during pregnancy the grey matter in a woman’s brain (used for processing information, emotions and empathy) decreases by 5%, to help the mother prepare for looking after the newborn child in ways of heightening alertness and senses.
