Infant Good Work Assembly December 8th

Infant Good Work Assembly

🌾 Infant Assembly: Winter in the UK

Infant Assembly - Winter in UK

This week’s Infant Assembly focused on the theme of Winter in the UK, giving the girls a chance to learn more about the chilliest season of the year.

Miss Sargeant opened the assembly by reminding the girls that winter is one of the four seasons. In the UK, it spans December, January and February. Using a colourful season wheel, the girls identified the different months and discussed which season each belongs to.

The assembly explored typical winter weather, with Miss Sargeant explaining that it is the coldest season, often bringing frost and, at times, snow. The girls also learned how animals adapt to winter, such as by growing thicker fur to stay warm. They compared this to how people use heating, light fires at home and wear warmer clothing.

Nature’s changes were another key focus, including the way many trees lose their leaves during winter. The assembly also highlighted the special celebrations that take place at this time of year, including Hanukkah, Christmas and other seasonal events.

To finish, Miss Sargeant introduced the concept of hemispheres, explaining that while the UK experiences winter at the end of the year, countries in the southern hemisphere, such as Australia, have their winter in June, July and August.

The children left with a clearer understanding of the season and the many ways winter shapes life around us..

Congratulations to this week’s Stars of the Week and winner of the ‘Living Life To The Full’ Certificate.
