The Company of Mary Our Lady, to which Notre Dame School belongs, is a worldwide Order. Although Notre Dame is the Order’s only school in the UK there are schools and communities belonging to the Order in many different parts of the world: in Asia, Africa, North America, South America and Europe.
The links that we have with the students in some of the Order’s other schools are very important to us. It is also important, particularly in this Jubilee Year of the Church, that we ensure that students learn about some of the other communities which we may not be in regular contact with, but nevertheless share so much in common.
Mr George led an assembly this morning in the Prep School helping the pupils learn about the Sisters of the Company of Mary Our Lady who live and work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The pupils learned about schools that the Sisters run and teach in, about a hospital run by the Sisters and where some of the Sisters are doctors and nurses, and about the way in which the Sisters support women who are victims of war, helping restore their dignity and giving them skills to help them find work. At the end of the assembly some of the Year 3 pupils shared some beautiful prayers that they had written, asking God to bless the work of the Sisters of the Company of Mary Our Lady, here in Cobham, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and around the world.
Students in the Senior School also learned about the Sisters in the Democratic Republic of Congo in an assembly a few weeks ago.
Future assemblies are planned to help students and pupils learn about the Order’s communities in other parts of the world, including Argentina, East Timor and Haiti.
