Year 7 & 8 Crack “Operation Cookie Monster”!
Yesterday, our Year 7 and 8 students swapped their regular timetables for detective badges during our immersive Science Week event, CSI: Cobham. Their mission? To solve “Operation Cookie Monster”—the scandalous, early-morning theft of Mrs. Best’s legendary double chocolate chip cookies!
Working in specialised Investigation Squads, students began by cross-examining a lineup of very suspicious staff members in the Innovation Space, including our IT department, PE staff, and even Ted the school wellbeing dog.
However, alibis only get you so far. To uncover the real truth, our young detectives headed to the wet and dry science labs to analyse physical evidence left at the scene. They performed chemical flame tests to track the origin of mud samples, used testing solutions to prove a “smashed window” was actually staged using fake sugar glass, and utilised light microscopes to match hair follicles and fingerprints.
Through brilliant deduction and applied biology and chemistry, the students successfully proved that the evidence pointed squarely to our Lead Investigator, DCI Day!
It was a fantastic day of hands-on learning, proving that critical thinking, teamwork and science are the ultimate tools for uncovering the truth. A huge well done to all our budding forensic scientists!
