Year 1 Outdoor Learning – Hedgehogs

YEar 1 Outdoor LEarning - HEdgehogs

Year 1 Discover the Wonderful World of Hedgehogs in Outdoor Learning

Last week, our Year 1 pupils enjoyed a fantastic Outdoor Learning session all about hedgehogs. The children were fascinated to learn a range of interesting facts, including how hedgehogs hibernate during the colder months and the importance of creating “hedgehog highways” — small gaps in garden fences that allow these little creatures to move around safely and freely.

The girls also explored what hedgehogs like to eat and why they play such an important role in our gardens and local ecosystems.

To finish the session, the pupils put their creativity to work by making their own hedgehogs out of clay, using sticks gathered from the forest area to form the spines. The results were wonderfully imaginative and made for a perfect end to an engaging, hands-on learning experience.

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed their woodland adventure and are now budding hedgehog experts! 🦔🌿
