Physical Education

Pupils are taught a wide range of sports in lessons using the excellent on-site facilities. The girls at Notre Dame thrive on the many opportunities to take part in competitive sport, with a strong House system as well as a fixture programme full of matches.

The inclusive ethos in PE at Notre Dame encourages every girl to find enjoyment and challenge through sport.

Girls are encouraged to develop qualities of commitment, co-operation and determination in their chosen sports and this will open up the opportunity to play for a competitive team. We also aim to promote a positive attitude towards participation in physical activities and to encourage a healthy active lifestyle after leaving school.

Such an approach means a wealth of sporting activities are on offer and our fields, outdoor courts, gymnasium, sports hall, fitness suite and indoor heated swimming pool are all well-used facilities. As well as the key sports, after Year 8 there are opportunities to do badminton, basketball, football, volleyball, trampolining and health related fitness.

At the end of Year 9 pupils will get the opportunity to take their learning to the next level in GCSE PE where they develop analytical skills in both practical and theoretical aspects of the subject.

Each year our netball, hockey, rounders, athletics, tennis, swimming, biathlon and cross-country teams achieve great success at local, county and national levels. We take a squad of U17 girls on a hugely successful bi-annual Netball tour. Some of our students excel at international events; we currently have champion swimmers and athletes amongst our students
