Year 12 Business students visited BMW Mini in Oxford last week to get to understand how a modern, state-of-the-art industrial plant works. It was extremely helpful to be able to see how concepts such as JIT and Lean Production are practised by BMW, and marvel at the sheer scale of the operation. Also on the trip were Year 10 Computing students; they could see first hand the integration of robotics throughout the factory.
Year 12 Molly: This was a great eye-opener as we got to see lots of gray metal shells start their 11 kilometre journey along the assembly lines, interact with hundreds of robots and roll off as shiny colourful cars, ready to drive off to their new forever homes – each one designed to order.”
