Astronomers Discover ‘Runaway’ Planet Consuming 6 Billion Tons Per Second

This week, astronomers announced the discovery of a remarkable ‘runaway’ planet behaving like a star, devouring an astonishing 6 billion tons of material every second.
The phenomenon was detected by the James Webb Space Telescope and is believed to be the fastest-growing free-floating planet ever observed. Scientists say this discovery could provide crucial insights into the differences between massive planets and small stars.
Researchers explained, “One of our next steps is to understand how common these types of events are in rogue planets. This will tell us how important accretion events are in their evolution.”

This breakthrough marks a significant step in understanding planetary formation and the dynamic processes shaping our universe.
