This week, as part of our Progression Pathway programme into KS3, our Year 6 girls had the opportunity to take part in two inspiring Writers’ Masterclasses, designed to support their transition into Year 7 English.
Led by Mr Mac and Mrs Fowler, the sessions were both engaging and highly purposeful, offering a glimpse into the expectations and excitement of senior school study.
Across the two workshops, the girls explored both poetry and prose, drawing confidently on their existing Year 6 knowledge. They applied the SHAMPOO technique with increasing sophistication, before being introduced to new ‘bites’ and strategies to deepen and refine their analytical writing. It was wonderful to see them rising to the challenge, thinking critically and articulating their ideas with growing confidence.
The sessions struck just the right balance—fun, entertaining, and intellectually stimulating—while also equipping the girls with valuable tools for the next stage of their learning journey.
The enthusiasm at the end of each masterclass spoke volumes:
“It was super fun and I am feeling confident about Year 7!” Flo
“Mr Mac is amazing, we really enjoyed it, it was super interesting” Pep & Chendore
“I really liked Mrs Fowler- she was very nice and interactive!” Reeya & Lexi
“I learnt lots of new terminology.” Yuri
“I liked learning new terms like enjambment!” Madi
“We learnt a new technique called Squeeze the Lemon!” Jasmine, Amber & Sophia
We are very grateful to Mr Mac and Mrs Fowler for delivering such enriching experiences and excited to see the girls continue to build on these skills as they prepare for Year 7.
