Melissa’s Story: 1000m for Every Year I Have Lived
On Sunday 14th June 2026, Melissa proudly completed a 10k walk at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London to help raise awareness of scoliosis. Across the UK others also took part in local community walks and meet ups, coming together to show support and increase visibility for those affected by the condition.
This event was never about competition. It was about showing up, raising awareness, building connections and supporting individuals living with scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a cause close to Melissa’s heart. Her mum was diagnosed at the age of 12 and her sister at just 7 requiring bracing. Melissa herself has a minor curve that continues to be carefully monitored.
The day itself was a great success. Thea P joined Melissa and the girls did an incredible job, walking and talking their way through the entire 10k.
Melissa’s efforts have been truly outstanding. She is currently the highest fundraiser in the UK and possibly the youngest, raising over £2,000 with donations still continuing to come in.
Through her participation, Melissa has helped shine a light on scoliosis and encouraged others to learn more and show their support.
