Infant Assembly - Sports Day

Sports Day Focus on Kindness and Team Spirit

Following last week’s heatwave, Sports Day has been rescheduled for this week, and excitement is building across the school.
In this week’s assembly, Miss Harris encouraged the girls to reflect on what Sports Day really means. She began by asking thoughtful questions such as: Who is excited for Sports Day? What events might we take part in? How do you feel if you win? How do you feel if you do not win? The girls also considered an important question: which matters more, winning a race or helping someone who falls over?

To explore this further, Miss Harris shared the story The Little Red Running Shoes: Rosie, a tale about kindness, friendship and what it truly means to be a champion. After the story, the girls reflected on key ideas, discussing whether the child in the story had to stop, whether it was a kind choice, who showed good sportsmanship, and whether more than one person can be a winner.

Miss Harris concluded with an important message for everyone to carry into Sports Day: you cannot always choose whether you come first, but you can choose how kind you are. Being a good sport means using kind words and showing respect, whether you win or lose.

We look forward to a fantastic Sports Day filled with encouragement, teamwork and positive spirit.

Congratulations to this week’s Stars of the Week.
