ESSA National Swimming Championships Final 2026

ESSA Primary School Swimming Relays Championships Report

On Saturday 21st June, our U11 swimming team, Holly, Isla, Grace V, Ogechi and Theia travelled to Ponds Forge in Sheffield to take part in the ESSA Primary School Relays Championships. Competing against the best primary school swimmers from across the country, the team represented the school with exceptional determination, teamwork, and pride throughout the day.

From the regional rounds through to the national finals, every member of the squad played a vital role in the team’s success. Their commitment, hard work, and support for one another truly embodied the spirit of school sport. It was fantastic to see the swimmers rise to the occasion on such a big stage, delivering strong performances in every race and pushing themselves to achieve their best.

In the finals, both relay teams performed brilliantly. The Medley Relay team secured an impressive 4th place, narrowly missing out on the podium after a highly competitive race. Their performance showcased excellent technique, smooth transitions, and great resilience under pressure.

The Freestyle Relay team delivered an outstanding swim to claim 2nd place, earning a well-deserved silver medal. Their speed, teamwork, and determination were evident from start to finish, making it a truly memorable race and a fantastic achievement for the school.

We would like to recognise and celebrate the efforts of all the girls who contributed throughout the competition, both in the regional rounds and at the finals. Each swimmer played an important part in making this success possible, and their dedication to training and competing has been inspiring. This is the first time we have medaled at this event!

Overall, the ESSA Championships proved to be a superb way to round off what has been an incredibly successful swimming season. The team’s achievements are a testament to their hard work, commitment, and positive team spirit, and they should be extremely proud of everything they have accomplished.

Laser Run

This term, Notre Dame has proudly introduced Laser Run to the curriculum, giving pupils an exciting opportunity to develop both their physical fitness and precision skills. The sport, which combines running and shooting, has already proven to be a fantastic challenge for the girls, and their progress has been impressive.

In the early stages, the focus was on learning how to safely and effectively use the laser pistols, with the girls practising their aim on electronic targets. Through determination and consistent practice, they quickly developed confidence, improving both their accuracy and control.

A key challenge has been the 50-second shooting window, in which the girls aim to hit 5 targets before heading back out to run again. This has encouraged focus, resilience, and quick recovery, with many pupils’ showing remarkable improvement in their ability to settle themselves and shoot accurately after a run.

Throughout the sessions, the girls have demonstrated excellent enthusiasm, teamwork, and perseverance. Their willingness to embrace a new sport and push themselves outside their comfort zones has been particularly pleasing to see.

The introduction of Laser Run has been a great success so far, and it is clear that the girls are developing both physically and mentally through this exciting and dynamic activity.
