Miss Paul Invited to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea football club invited me to Stamford Bridge to discuss with selected stakeholders how to develop and grow female football in schools.

Chelsea Football Club - Stamford Bridge

We discussed a wide range of topics from what age groups to start delivery, barriers facing young girls in sport, growth of girls football in schools & how to provide/ensure sustained participation. Chelsea’s new initiative called ‘Inspire Her’ is looking to have a marked impact on girls participation in football and it was a fantastic experience to help shed light on surrounding issues girls can face in football.

U12A vs Christ’s College, Guildford

The U12 Football team played valiantly against a strong Christ’s College team. With a soaking of rain earlier in the day, the pitch was extremely muddy and slippy proving a challenge for both teams. The girls started strong holding their own in the midfield putting in some good tackles. CC broke through after a few minutes and managed to score a great goal from the edge of the box. Poppy Trevor, Harriet Flatman and Poppy Hayes played a great defensive game clearing the danger effectively with vital tackles and clearances. The opposition did manage to score 2 more times before half time though. After half time the girls made a huge step up and started passing and moving faster and with purpose whilst attacking. This led to Evelyn receiving a fantastic through ball on the wing which she sprinted down the line and took a shot that snuck past the keeper to score. We kept the pressure and Jessica managed to take a few more great shots but unfortunately saved or missed the target. We finished with the score 7-1 to Christ’s College.

U13 Danes Hill Event

A big congratulations to our U13 Cross-Country team (combined Years’ 7+8) who competed in the Danes Hill annual competition on Tuesday morning. In a big field of runners comprising of 13 different schools our 5 ND competitors all ran really well on what was a demanding and muddy course. The girls’ combined results meant that Team ND finished in 3rd place overall, an excellent achievement and testament to the girls’ determination. On top of this ND had outstanding individual results with Poppy O winning the race overall and Steph J finishing in 3rd place – fantastic to see two of our runners on the podium receiving medals and the whole team also receiving a medal for finishing 3rd overall.

Well done to all five runners on an excellent and exciting  achievement: Poppy O, Steph J, Emma F, Amelia H, Emilia D.

Hockey

U12 A v Broomwood

The girls had an outstanding hockey performance against a very strong Broomfield side. We started very strong and played some nice passages of play from the back into the middle of the pitch helped by Poppy being a solid centre midfield which was supported my Cece and Evelyn on the wings. We made a lot of circle entries and were able to score early on in the first half to lift our energy and morale levels against a very strong and fierce Broomwood opposition.

After half time, we wanted to focus on keeping possession of the ball consistently throughout the game and making good and positive decisions on the ball. This showed to not be a problem for the girls as they kept the intensity high and we did not concede in the second half due to some incredible saves and leadership from Poppy in goal.

Very impressed with these girls. They showed great courage and determination and matched the intensity throughout the whole game to finish 1-0 win.

U12 B v Broomwood

A lovely afternoon of Hockey for the girls with some spring sunshine and temperatures. The U12B’s started well linking some good plays and defending strong when needed. Unfortunately, we did concede a few goals in the first half from some swift play of Broomwood. The girls kept their head high and with some great pressure in and around the opposition’s D the girls managed to put a goal past the keeper to get on the scoreboard before the half time whistle. 4-1 to Broomwood after half time. With a few changes to positions the girls came back for the second half with a new drive. Winning the ball back quicker and distributing the ball between players faster we were able to catch a quick turnover in our D and transfer the ball up to the forward who carried the ball swiftly around the keeper and pushed it hard to the back corner of the goal.

Final score was 5-2 to Broomwood.

U16A v Prior’s Field

On a lovely Wednesday evening we travelled to play against Prior’s Field, for some of our girls their last game for ND. The game started really well, putting them under a lot of pressure but they were a really good side having made the quarter finals of the T1 competition this year. They started to link up really nicely which challenged our defence with our ability to track their movements. PF managed to gain a couple of circle entries that were cut out brilliantly by the centre backs Ella and Sophia and Alexia in goal. However there came a point from a really good counter-attack and we were out-numbered on the back post and PF took the lead. The game continued with a really good battle in midfield and both defences cancelling out either team’s attacks. Just before the half time PF had a short corner that was converted with a bullet like strike. Score was 2-0 at half term.

We changed our shape a little to support the outlet a little more and narrow our defence to force their attack to be wider, while also offering us more numbers in the forward line. The girls battled really hard with some excellent chances for both Darcey and Olivia to score but their defence were just too good, even with a goal mouth scramble. Our defence stood strong as well resulting in the second half being 0-0. Fully time scored PF 2 ND 0.

Ably led by Co-Captains Alexia W and Ciara S, the team of Rebecca P, Rebecca H, Mila E, Zahara H, Evie H and Preeti G were all outstanding and a credit to the school.  Zahara was named Most Valuable Player by the opposition.

Netball Shooting Competition

Winners 2024

Thursday 21 March saw the final of the Netball Shooting competition which has been open to all girls attending Wednesday lunchtime shooting club.  The 7 finalists had to win the right to compete against each other for the title of Netball Top Shooter 2023/24.

After a very close and tense shoot out, Ellie D Year 12 emerged the winner with a score of 10 (from a possible 13 – the ‘golden’ shot was worth 3 so in effect she shot 100%) and in joint second place were Chloe C Year 10 and Isabella H Year 7 both with 9.  It could not have been any closer!

On to the next challenge!! Congratulations to Ellie who has consistently committed to netball club training all year despite the variable weather.

Water Polo

Huge congratulations to Alice and her waterpolo team who qualified last weekend for the U17 National Waterpolo Finals which take place in Gloucester at the end of April. Alice herself played very well, including a superb goal from behind the centre line in one of the matches.

Alice - Water Polo Championships

Her team, the West London Penguins will be one of four teams fighting hard for a medal and with the other three teams all having GB waterpolo players, it’s going to be a big challenge!

Good luck Alice!

Hockey

Huge congratulations to Poppy T in Yr 7 who won and qualified in goal for the London In2Hockey Finals with her team at Surbiton Hockey Club.
