Year 11 GCSE Trip to Wimbledon

Year 11 GCSE PE Trip to Wimbledon Museum

After last year’s Black History Month project on Althea Gibson, the now, Year 11 girls were fascinated by her story and that of Angela Buxton. They had asked to try and send a letter to any surviving relatives and after some research I was struggling to find any so I emailed the Wimbledon Museum for help. They didn’t know of any living relatives but were very impressed with the girls’ interest in the two influential women and asked if we would like to present our findings to the Wimbledon Museum Staff. An opportunity that we could not miss.

Year 11 GCSE Trip to Wimbledon

At last (after lockdown) the opportunity occurred and the Year 11 girls got their chance to present to the Wimbledon Museum staff. After lots of research from the girls they put together a fantastic presentation, of which they should be very proud. The Wimbledon staff were extremely impressed and after the presentation, gave the girls a tour. One of the Curators of the Museum, who had watched their presentation, took us to her latest exhibition on trailblazers of tennis; in which Althea Gibson featured; an extremely interesting and appropriate exhibit. The girls then had the whole museum to themselves and a tour of the grounds, including Court 1.

The staff at Wimbledon were absolutely fantastic and the Year 11 girls did the school proud.

Senior Girls Assisting with Prep Netball Coaching

It is just so wonderful to see our senior girls helping our Prep girls in their after school training sessions. Some of the girls have come full circle as three seniors were prep girls themselves! #InspiringTheNextGeneration

Hockey

On Wednesday the U14 Hockey Team had a home match against Tiffin School. In a competitive game ND showed excellent composure in defence, good distribution in midfield and some good movement off the ball in attack. A goal in each half by attacking midfielder Charlotte M ensured that ND won by two goals to nil; congratulations to the whole team for their good play and versatility.
