The Notre Dame Maths Ambassadors have been busy in their weekly meetings planning, organising and resourcing a range of exciting number-based activities for our annual Prep School Number Day. Their hard work and enthusiasm helped to create a fantastic event that was enjoyed by pupils during activity break.
A variety of mathematical games and challenges were available, all designed to encourage children to use and develop their numeracy skills in a fun and engaging way. One of the most popular activities was the Human Fruit Machine, where pupils tested their understanding of probability. Children had the chance to spin and see whether they could match two or three of the same fruit to win valuable house points.
Another favourite was the Giant Higher or Lower Card Game. Pupils had to predict whether the next card would have a higher or lower value, using their number knowledge and logical thinking to make informed decisions. It was wonderful to see so many children confidently applying their mathematical skills while having fun.
The Estimation Challenge also proved to be a great success. Pupils carefully studied clear jars filled with marbles, counters or dice, before making their best estimate of how many items each container held. The girls whose guesses are closest to the correct totals will receive a prize at the final end-of-year assembly.
To add a little friendly competition, pupils also took part in a Target Throw Challenge, earning house points through skill, accuracy and determination. The activity generated plenty of excitement and encouraged children to think strategically while representing their houses.
The field was filled with laughter, teamwork and an enormous amount of mathematical thinking. From probability and estimation to number sense and strategic reasoning, pupils were able to see just how enjoyable maths can be.
A huge thank you must go to our wonderful Maths Ambassadors, whose dedication, creativity and leadership made the games such a success. They worked incredibly hard to plan and run the activities, showing great responsibility and enthusiasm throughout. We are extremely proud of all they have achieved and grateful for the positive impact they continue to have on promoting a love of mathematics across the school.
Well done, Maths Ambassadors!
