Textiles (Art)

In Design and Technology Textiles the pupils pride themselves on the quality of their practical skills and the quality of their finished products.

The aim is for all pupils to use their heads to think of concepts and ideas, their hands to create innovative outcomes and their hearts to show their passion and inspiration as they produce a myriad of fashion and textile designs.

The department offers everyone the opportunity to study within a supportive environment to make individual practical pieces of the highest calibre. The specialist textiles studio is well-equipped for the development of ambitious outcomes, which range from fashion design, soft furnishings to recycled textile products. Students are ambitious in their approach to design task requirements and consistently aim to achieve highly.

The annual ‘Fashion Show’ is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the high quality work produced by our pupils. The exposure of their work to a live audience gives an enormous sense of achievement and pride. The pupils exhibit a broad range of Fashion and Textiles and this is a celebration not to be missed!

The Design and Technology department exudes success and excitement. Textiles work is always on display prominently around the school.

Learning is all about educating young people for life. That is why in Design and Technology we attach so much importance to what goes on beyond the classroom. Every day, during lunchtime, groups of pupils can be found in the textiles room exploring and developing their passion for creating unique designs. To gain inspiration the department organises a wide range of activities including workshops, national competitions and educational visits. Recent examples are the Young Fashion Designer Competition and The Clothes Show Live Bright Young Things. The standard of entries for these competitions are exceptionally high and we are delighted that the pupils’ inspired pieces are regularly shortlisted for awards. Visits to the V&A Museum and Clothes Show Live form an integral part of learning and inspire the development of personal ideas.
