Hasta siempre
Sophia B and Xinyi L; Xinyi L and Sophia B:
Tanto monta, monta tanto
Sophia y Xinyi, Xinyi y Sophia, yesterday was both a sad and emotional day and one full of hope. We said goodbye to our Year 13 students.
Life is a journey made up of different stages, and for you, this chapter in the Spanish Department has come to an end—though you know our doors are, and always will be, open to you.
Notre Dame was not your first choice, and so the other schools that did not accept you will never know what they missed. You have spent many years learning in the department, but these last two, in particular, have truly shown your growth—not only as linguists but, more importantly, as individuals.
You are a shining example through your effort, dedication, attitude, and aptitude for learning Spanish—a language that will undoubtedly bring you much joy if you continue to nurture it. You have never complained or lost heart; instead, you’ve always been eager to learn and, most importantly, to apply everything you have been taught to improve.
We have shared many lessons and many memorable moments. You have supported one another every step of the way, always ready to help and lift each other, because it hasn’t always been an easy journey.
Lessons have now ended, exams have begun, and a few still lie ahead to bring your hard work to a close. We are confident that you will achieve what you deserve—but whatever the outcome, it is just one part of this beautiful journey, not the end. Life is about getting back up and continuing forward, as you step into the exciting and transformative stage of university life—a time to grow, discover new passions, meet new people, and continue shaping the incredible individuals you are becoming.
In the Spanish Department, we have been incredibly proud to guide you in learning the language of Cervantes, with the belief that the very best is yet to come.
For all your tireless effort, Sophia and Xinyi, Xinyi y Sophia, de corazón: ¡MUCHA SUERTE!
