Ancient tooth suggests that Neanderthals were the first dentists.

Ancient tooth marks may rewrite the history of dentistry. Archaeologists studying a 59,000 year old Neanderthal molar say grooves on the tooth suggest an unexpectedly sophisticated attempt to relieve tooth pain, possibly making Neanderthals the world’s first dentists. The findings add to growing evidence that Neanderthals used tools and medical knowledge far more advanced than once believed.
